The Daily Jolt is composed of college students at schools around the country working collectively to create college-specific versions of The Daily Jolt.
Dissatisfied with the Web sites of our own schools, with mainstream portal sites, and with lame attempts on the part of companies to create sites for college students, we decided to create our own start page.
Because it was created by actual college students and is run by them, too, the site is actually useful, interesting, easy, and usually a lot of fun.
Originating at Amherst College, Project Jolt has expanded to over one hundred campuses nationwide. All its members work together to innovate the design of the site as well as to localize the site for each college. Each college's Daily Jolt site is run by students at that school helping to ensure really useful content. The fact that we're all students also means you can write in with your suggestions for making the site more useful and we'll probably listen.
The Hopkins Jolt was founded in 1999 by Akash Anand (aanand@akashanand.com) and Rikeen Popat (rikeen.popat@dailyjolt.com). Both graduated in the spring of 2001, and were succeeded by Eli Salomon and Dennis Boothe. Jim Abraham and Hardy Simes later joined in 2002 and, along with Dennis, they continued to run the site until Jim and Dennis' graduation in 2004. Currently, the site is Run by Raaid Ahmad ('06) and Julia Loux ('06). The Hopkins Jolt has been, and remains the number one source of information for the Hopkins undergrad community.
Signing off,
The Members of Project Jolt
